                                           The Publisher

 

     Dr. Claude A. Mayberry, Jr. exemplifies what a distinguished educator and an entrepreneur should be.  He gives of himself and his resources to support many organizations.  He participates and encourages special interest activities with communities that further the education of underserved children.  He listens and responds to the concerns of others.  He has established relationships with educators, students, parents and communities across the country.  Dr. Mayberry is highly respected and demonstrates sensitivity to all individuals who are of another race, culture, religion, sex or handicapped.

 

     His accomplishments include:  Teacher of Year – Indiana Junior Chamber of Commerce; first black Dean of Students University of Pennsylvania; first black provost – Colgate University.  He was instrumental in a political campaign that led to the election of America’s first black mayor – Gary Indiana. He brought over $1 million in minority graduate scholarships at Columbia University Teachers College; organized the first American student exchange program with the University of Zambia and Colgate University; the only black-owned publisher who presently has nationally distributed core-classroom products for kindergarten through grade six; served as director of postsecondary Institutional Aid Program (former Title III Program of the 1965 Education Act), with an annual budget of $350 million; developed for the United States Department Education a departmental program to address the issues of shortages in teachers of mathematics and science,  the national crisis in mathematics, science, and computer illiteracy.  He has authored books, journalistic articles, monographs, and other professional publications based upon scholarly research and professional experience.

 

     Dr. Mayberry is founder of Science Weekly International and CAM Publishing Group, Inc., the publisher of the nationally multi-award winning publication Science Weekly.  His recent honors and memberships include:  inducted into the American Educational Publishers Hall of Fame, recipient of Purdue University Distinguished Alumni Science Achievement Award, inducted into Who’s Who Among Black Entrepreneurs.  He is a member of the board of trustees at Columbia University Teachers College, Reading is Fundamental, National Commission For African American Education, and is currently President of the National Council on Educating Black Children. 

 

Dr. Mayberry received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and Physics and Master of Arts degree in teaching mathematics from Purdue University. He received Master of Arts degrees in school administration and mathematics education, and a Doctorate degree in mathematics from Columbia University Teachers College.
